Week 66: 100 DAYS LEFT!!
BUT WHO'S COUNTING??? Sister Fairbanks's email to me was just a longer version of the group email, but there are a few more details if you're curious. Enjoy!
Hi Mom!!!
This week was great! Seemed super long, but also lots of fun. It also went by really fast?? I'm not sure how time works on a mission, but it's strange. I actually asked President Vest this week how I can make sure to make the most of my time because I can feel it running out... Oh, happy 100 days left, by the way! :D
Monday evening we had Applebee's with a member, Sister Burkgren. That was a lot of fun, and delicious! I had a quesadilla burger - instead of a bun it was a tortilla. Lots of fun! That evening we also had a lesson with Melissa and Harold. They really liked 2 Nephi 31 that we left with them and they ask really good questions. Melissa said at the end, "I like the new perspective you bring. And it's the right perspective." Yes, yes it is. ;)
Tuesday we helped at Meal on Wheels in the morning. We cut onions all morning at it was horrible! Haha. Okay, we had fun and just pretended that the songs on the radio were making us emotional, but my eyes burned basically all day. I also made tangy meatballs that day. If you time everything right, it's totally possible to make a nice meal as a missionary! And it reminded me of home. I also taco soup this week. :) We had a lesson with Khulani that night and he said the closing prayer - a big step for him! We had a lesson with Karen that night too, and we made some good progress with her concerns about church.
Wednesday we got to put on our grubby clothes and drove out to Trumansburg to help the Hully family. He is a member, she almost is, haha. They are preparing to move and needed some deep cleaning done so they could take pictures for the realtor. And they really needed some cleaning... we spent over four hours this week just working on the kitchen cabinets. We went on three different days for just a couple hours each... But it was a lot of fun. It was good to be with the Hullys and help them the best we could right now. This week, I watched how service helps others come unto Christ.
That night I also got to meet one of our recent converts that has been in China for a few weeks. His name is Chen! He was baptized in March, and he is someone that Sister Hamblin taught when she was here forever ago! He's a really great guy and has a pretty cool testimony. He is going to Cornell but is from mainland China. He was pretty excited that night to learn that there are wards and a temple in Hong Kong, which he doesn't live too far away from.
Thursday we had a lesson with Eric and went over the baptismal interview questions with him. He still doesn't know which date, but it will be in the next three or four weeks, so that's exciting. He's still pretty nervous, but he is honestly so amazing. He didn't even believe in Christ a few months ago. Now he comes to church every week and sings in the choir. He recognizes the Spirit and can't wait to be confirmed. A lot of the interview questions have to do with your testimony and he was worried that his testimony had to be at a certain level - more like knowledge than just faith. But we assure him that even a glimmer a faith is all that the Lord asks for. He can work with that. :)
We had a good Fourth of July BBQ with some members, but couldn't stay for long because we work even on holidays. "That's unpatriotic," said one member. Haha. It was a good day though!
Friday! It was a pretty good, strange day. We had a couple of lessons, we went to the Hully's that afternoon...
Saturday we helped the Hullys again and then we spent the afternoon in Dryden checking with a ton of people. We got caught in a HUGE rain storm and it was awesome. Super soaked and got cold and miserable later on, but I had wanted to cool off so I guess I got what I wished for. :D Next time I will bring an umbrella. Saturday was Sister Sessions birthday!!! So we got ice cream with dinner and she opened some presents from home. She LOVED the thunderstorm we had and I tried to make it as fun of a day as I could. It was a pretty good day. :)
Sunday was wonderful, of course. I love the Sabbath. Eric came to church. We had a really cool lesson with Barbara that afternoon. Made taco soup that night. <3 a="" address="" again.="" and="" answered.="" area...="" area="" but="" day="" fact="" font="" fun="" grandma="" great="" have="" hello="" his="" how="" in="" it="" kathy="" lives="" ll="" makes="" many="" me="" members="" mystery="" nbsp="" no="" on="" other="" our="" really="" s="" say="" sent="" she="" so="" son="" though.="" to="" tried="" try="" us="" was="" we="" went="" wonder="">3>
Today! Woke up and cleaned this morning. I think we are planning on going to Cornell to see the bell tower and buy some souveniers. I'm excited. P-days are great! I can't wait to talk to you later!!!!
I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!

And here is the group email:
Good Morning!
This week was super fantastic! Most weeks are, but it's nice to have a good string of them all in a row!
Monday we had a really good lesson with Harold and Melissa. They love the chapters we have them read from the Book of Mormon and they ask really great questions. They are eager to learn. :)
Tuesday we helped at Meal on Wheels in the morning. We cut onions all morning at it was horrible! Haha. Okay, we had fun and just pretended that the songs on the radio were making us emotional. ;) That evening we had a great lesson with Khulani and he prayed for the first time in years. It's exciting to watch people grow.
This week we did a lot of service. We helped a family clean and get their house ready to sell and we helped another member pack her house up. It's been a lot of fun! We had a lot of other great lessons this week. I really love the people we get to work with. Eric is still preparing for baptism. I got to meet Chen who just got baptized this spring. They are both doing great!
Oh, we also got stuck in a thunderstorm - that's always super fun, haha! I actually loved the rain and it cooled the day off significantly. :)
I've really loved this week! It was long but went by super fast. Time passes differently on a mission. But I love it all! I love serving as a missionary and I know that this is the Lord's work!
Have a wonderful week!
