BYU Class and Financial Peace University
TWO THINGS - First, that BYU "Institute" class that I wrote about starts this Tuesday at 1 p.m. the Jr. High Seminary building. It costs around 20 dollars per semester, and I believe it is about the New Testament this year. I thought it would be fun to have lunch together sometimes, so ANYONE who would like to come is welcome to come to my place for a light lunch at 11:30 this Tuesday.
And that goes for those who can't make it to the class, too. If you still have a kiddo or two at home, and can't attend the class, come visit at lunch anyway! I'll provide sandwich makings, and you can just bring yourself, or bring a favorite lunch food/finger food to share. I doubt there will be many of us (if no one comes, I'll just go myself!), but keep an eye on this entry's comments to get an idea. Leave me a comment to let me know if you can make it and spread the word to those who don't read the blogs, or you think might just need someone to reach out to them. I'm gonna do it myself, too, I won't just hide behind my blog.
Second, Ryan and I have known sound financial principles for years, but never had the guts to make a habit of those things we knew we should be doing. So, about 1.5 years ago, we signed up for this class that Bro. Linschoten teaches at the bank. It's not a banking class or anything. It's a program created by this Christian author named Dave Ramsey. It was a 13 week course, which was long enough that we could finally get into some better habits by following the program.
It's called Financial Peace University, and it cost us about $130 for the whole course. It was worth every penny!!! I usually keep financial stuff pretty close, but just so you get an idea of how much I love the class... Ry and I went from $30,000 in debt to NO debt and about $20,000 in net worth - all in about a year. Now, that is an extraordinary example, but we're proof that it is possible. (We had a property to sell, which helped immensely, but now we closely follow the other principles taught in the class and just watch our savings grow instead of shrink!) I would even go with you a couple of times if you want, or maybe watch your kids!
I guess the first class was last week, but missing the first one is no big deal. The classes from now on will be held Wednesday nights at 6:30 (they're pretty loose about the time, so if you have to be late because of work, go anyway!) Let me know if you want more info, or call Bro. L. The name Financial Peace University is very appropriate. The peace that comes from knowing that the money coming in is going to stay with you, and not go to creditors, is priceless.
